Scan your books
Scan your books using the ISBN barcode on the back of all modern books and it goes into your database.
When the ISBN has been scanned successfuly we look it up in the Google Books database which returns the title, author(s), publisher and published date. It then goes directly into your database of book you have.
Search and filter
You can search for a book you have, set each book to "sold or given away" and also set the "I've read this" switch.
You can also add notes on what you thought of the book at the time.
Database
Your database of books is kept in the cloud, securely, so it is not all on your phone (like some Apps do).
Security
We have gone to some lengths in securing the website and your database. This can mean that you get logged out every now and then, but it is all in a good cause!
For extra security we log you out after about eight hours anyway. And for extra security we ask you to keep using the same "device" (ie your phone, laptop, computer et al) to do all things here. If you forget your password, we have a forgot password option that sends you a link by email. This has to be clicked on the same device too, (and within 20 minutes) sorry!
History
We came up with this idea when we were selling books to the good people of BookLoop. We wanted to record what books we have, what we thought of them and whether we'd read them or not.
Lilac Books is also useful if you are in a bookshop and want to see if you already own a book that takes your fancy - not ideal for booksellers though!
